May 7th, last Saturday ought to be remembered primarily for the venue and the head of my drumstick flying off. I actually was asking myself what was so 90's about all the girls wearing sex bands, since the melted condom fad wasn't invented that early? Well anyway, the Nirvana chicks and the uber-distorted megawatt shticks blasted out and I guess those were the 90's parts to it. It was a playground with so many creepy life-size figurines that painted the motif like we were smack dab in the middle of a crazy horror flick. There was fucking tree house on my left. Yet it was surreal with all the buses wheezing by on my right. And the Pond's ads that provided shade for the place. It was our first show outside so we enjoyed it for what it was worth. There was just something really sacred about playing outside. Some holiness you can sniff. Some deviant air wafting around. All the parts of the drumset were amplified and they let us do a whole lotta soundchecking... More serious production, technical staff, everything. Pleasurebox did a cover of the Pumpkins' Drown again, and the rest were our own. a 30 minute set. We were VERY "technical" (hopefully sound), which was a good thing. It lessened some anxiety on our part, or at least mine. Anyway, during a certain song, the head of my 5A's flew. Such grace. Like some accidental grunge act. Yun talaga yung Bullet with butterfly wings! It just left me. It died. Well I didn't. Good thing I had a spare down there beside the bass drum. Could've gone handicapped. I just hate it when my sticks get decapitated. I mean of all the times they could leave me, sa gig pa! But it's part of the reality. There's a side to it that makes you wanna just laugh it off. And um.. The reality of four hundred fifty pesos.
My thanks to the whole band and the prod that got us in. Thank you. Whooo. :D
After the jam, I felt I could eat anything so I went home, pigged out. Missed Jamie 'cause she left for Sorsogon for a week. :'(

Eric Perlas, the guy who produced EP's for bands like Plane Divides the Sky and Boy Elroy has promised to help us if "all goes well". Recording? Come late May probably.

I've been studying the more technical aspects of the drums lately. I get the rudiments at this site.

Books I will read over the next few months...
Eugenides' Middlesex (the guy who wrote the virgin suicides, remember?)
Gaarder's The Orange Girl (psychadelic stuff..)
Hagedorn's The Gangster of Love and Danger and Beauty
Herbert's Dune
Salinger's Nine Stories

Ronaldo Roque has moved to the Ateneo.
Faaaantastic.
